Ryan Gledhill

Senior Associate

Ryan began his legal career in a civil litigation setting, acting for both individuals and companies on both sides of personal injury and loss related claims, which highlighted the ramifications of not getting things right from a health and safety perspective. In 2021, Ryan then made the move into Regulatory and Health and Safety criminal enforcement.

Working closely with Madeleine over a number of years, Ryan has a developed a wealth of cross-industry experience, in areas such as construction, chemical production, highway maintenance, hospitality, healthcare, local government, safeguarding and manufacturing. Ryan has the trust of a range of companies, from the very large to the modest, in proactively advising on compliance issues, providing robust defence when criminal prosecutions arise, appealing enforcement action and providing advocacy for public inquiries and inquests.

She has over 27 years of experience in helping clients achieve the highest standards of health and safety and regulatory compliance through a range of innovative assessment tools, workshops and training programmes, and has unrivalled experience in defending clients in complex crown court trials, in applications for judicial review in the High Court and in enforcement notice appeals. Her clients operate in a wide range of industries including construction, property management, utilities, public services, highways, manufacturing and retail, and public sector organizations including the emergency services and local authorities.

Madeleine has worked with numerous Boards of Directors to guide them in enhancing their contribution to health and safety performance, updating them in the latest leadership expectations and developing their knowledge and ability to probe safety-related information and make a meaningful contribution to the health and safety performance of their business.

She is regularly engaged to speak at industry conferences – events over recent years include the HSE Excellence Conference in Frankfurt, Chief Fire Officers’ Association Conference, the IOSH National Safety Symposium, the IOSH Railway Safety Conference, Police National Risk Conference and the Construction News Safety Conference. She has also travelled to the USA and Canada to deliver training for an international engineering services company, and has trained clients’ internal trainers to deliver her programmes to further corners of the globe, such as Australia.

She holds the Lead Accident Investigators Certificate and a number of industry competency cards. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Construction Health and Safety Manual and a regular contributor to various industry publications.
